Can ChatGPT Make a Video of My Car?

Not on its own, as far as we can verify. The Sora app and website closed for good on April 26, 2026 (OpenAI Help Center (archived copy)), and we found no official OpenAI page saying ChatGPT now makes videos itself. ChatGPT can still help with the words: the prompt, the description of your car and the caption. To turn a photo of your car into a clip, you need a video tool such as Gemini or a car template.

Both templates turn photos into a car clip with no prompt, from 10 credits a clip.

Gemini appYes, up to 5 photos10-second clips with Gemini Omni; needs a Google AI plan and you must be 18 or older (Google Gemini, Gemini Apps Help).
Google VidsYesGoogle says anyone with a Google account can generate videos there at no cost (Google blog).

OpenAI's live help pages did not open for us, so the Sora dates come from an archived copy of OpenAI's own help article.

Why ChatGPT Is Not the Answer for the Video Itself

When OpenAI announced the end of Sora in March 2026, Variety reported that ChatGPT would also stop making video from text prompts (Variety). TechCrunch, the same day, wrote that the Sora 2 model was still reachable behind the ChatGPT paywall (TechCrunch). Business Standard reported there were no plans to bring video generation into ChatGPT (Business Standard).

We could not settle that from an official OpenAI page, and we found no later announcement of video in ChatGPT. So we do not tell you ChatGPT can make your car clip; check your own ChatGPT app before you count on it.

What Happened to Sora

OpenAI announced on March 24, 2026 that it was saying goodbye to Sora (NBC News). Its help article says the Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026, and that the Sora API would be discontinued on September 24, 2026 (OpenAI Help Center (archived copy), The Decoder).

The same article told users how to export their Sora work and said OpenAI would permanently delete data tied to Sora.

What Gemini Can Do With a Car Photo

Google's pages describe video in the Gemini app this way (Google Gemini, Gemini Apps Help):

  • Gemini Omni, not Veo. Google says Gemini Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app.
  • Up to 5 photos. You can upload one video and up to five images; you must have rights to them.
  • 10-second clips. The video page says “Create 10 second videos”.
  • Paid and 18+. A personal account needs a Google AI plan, and the feature is not available to users under 18.
  • A hidden watermark. Videos made in the Gemini app carry SynthID, an invisible watermark.

What ChatGPT Can Still Do for Your Car Clip

ChatGPT is good at the text around a video. Use it for these, then make the clip in a video tool:

  • Adapt a prompt. Paste one of our copy-paste flying car prompts and ask ChatGPT to fill in your car's make, model and colour.
  • Describe your car in words. Ask for a one-line description of your tail lights, wheels and body shape; video tools keep a car steadier when you spell those out.
  • Split a long prompt. If your video tool makes short clips, ask ChatGPT to cut the beats into two prompts that join up.
  • Write the caption. Ask for a short caption that says the clip is AI-generated before you post it.

A Workflow That Works Today

ChatGPT for the words, a video tool for the clip.

  1. Pick the photo

Shoot your whole car in daylight. Use a front three-quarter shot for a take-off clip, or a rear shot for a ramp stunt.

Watch out: The tool only knows the side your photo shows.

  2. Get the prompt ready

Start from a prompt on our prompt page and let ChatGPT tailor it to your car.

Watch out: Keep the numbered beats; they stop things happening in the wrong order.

  3. Make the clip

Paste the prompt and add the photo in a video tool, or skip the prompt and use a RoadsterAI template.

Watch out: Both RoadsterAI templates are open now; add your photos on their pages.

  4. Label it as AI

Say in the caption that it is AI-generated.

Watch out: Never present it as real footage.
